Sophie lived in Cardiff all her life and worked as a piano teacher. She was originally to marry Edmonston's brother (Reginald?) but he was killed in WW1 and she later ended up marrying Edmonston when he came over from New Zealand. She died of TB when Joan was only two years old so little else is known about her.

Sophie was best friends with Dorothy Mossford (who married George Harold Wride, her brother), Dorothy taught young children so that was probably how they knew each-other and apparently they did a lot of country dancing together.

We have her birth and marriage certificates.
